Hey Reader, first of all I want to say thank you to all of you who kindly sent me your testimonial in the past week. I really appreciate it, your helps means a lot. If you’re one of these people, thank you so much. If not and you want to send me a testimonial of your benefit from my work (in any way you benefited), you’re totally welcome to. Either way, I have something important I want to share today. There’s a secret trick the mind plays, that can get in the way of you getting better results with your inner work. It’s quite clever and often we don’t catch it, and it is how we can develop very subtle, unconscious stories about our stories that keep us stuck in loops. I saw it a few times with clients in the past week and thought to share about it here. It goes like this: Let’s say there’s a woman called Sharon. Sharon is aware of her stories, and she tells me about how she is noticing them and seeing that it’s “just a story”. But here’s the thing, in her mind she is constantly thinking on how these are “just stories” that appear in her head, and they keep appearing. And with that, there’s a subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) frustration that they are “still” here, and a desire to fix them and kick them out of her head so they go away. It’s not a thought she hears consciously, but implied in this feeling of frustration she feels when these thoughts appear, there is the subtle belief of: “These thoughts shouldn’t be here and I don’t want them here”. There is also an implied victim story saying: “Why are these thoughts still here? This is not ok, these thoughts are bothering me”. Now, when she reported me about her experience, she said it was her as the observer thinking these thoughts. But that’s the thing – It’s not. It’s another character pretending to be the observer. The true observer is quiet. It has no commentary on things, it is a silent watcher. But as we do this work, our ego will evolve and become more clever, and we can develop what is typically referred to as the “spiritual ego” but is simply actually an “ego that sounds spiritual”. It’s still an ego. It is a construct of beliefs and stories, it’s just that now it uses spiritual terminology and can even use terminology on itself. This means it can think critically about other thoughts in the mind and refer to them in this way. So this is an invitation to you, to notice these subtle reactions and stories about the stories. To notice where there is a character speaking with a subtle agenda and story of judgment about different characters (voice in your head). This is awareness becoming aware of how the ego can talk about itself. The true observer just watches, it is in acceptance of things because it’s nature is acceptance. It’s quiet because it is always the watching, it is not the thinking, it is the observing of it. I hope it’s clear, hope this helps, Daniel. |
